Dr. Miroj Shakya, Chair and Associate Professor, Religious Studies recently presented a paper titled “Digitizing the Dharma: Safeguarding Sanskrit Buddhist Manuscripts with Artificial Intelligence” at the AI and Dharma Conference, hosted by Sakya Buddha University in Santa Ana, California on May 31, 2025.

The conference brought together leading scholars from UC Berkeley, Naropa University, and other institutions, along with practitioners working at the intersection of technology and spiritual tradition. A keynote address was delivered by Dr. Lewis Lancaster, Professor Emeritus, UC Berkeley and UWest.

Dr. Shakya expressed his gratitude to Venerable Master Thich Huyen Chau, President and Founder of Sakya Buddha University, and to Dr. Victor Gabriel, Chancellor, for their generous invitation and warm hospitality during the event.
